After the fire

PUBLISHER:

U.S. Fire Administration

DESCRIPTION:

The document offers practical guidelines for fire prevention at the borders between urban and forest areas – typical of many settlements in Macedonia. By implementing the strategies in this guide -such as spatial planning, safety boundaries around homes and strengthened coordination between institutions- municipalities can prevent disasters that would threaten the lives and safety of children. In addition, the importance of public education and community involvement is emphasized, which allows children to be educated and actively participate in creating a safer environment. This reinforces their rights to information, participation and living in a healthy and safe environment, which is a key segment of the local approach to children’s rights.
