Consultations with children and local panel in the municipality of Debar

Oct 9, 2024

Today in Debar, consultations and a municipal panel were held as part of the initiative to create Child-Friendly Municipalities.

A child-friendly municipality is a community that places the interests of children at the forefront of its municipal policies, creating safe, inclusive, and responsible environments for the youngest. It is a city or community where the voices, needs, priorities, and rights of children are an integral part of public policies, programs, and decisions. This initiative respects children’s rights, as established in the Convention on the Rights of the Child and in accordance with domestic legislation.

The purpose of the consultations was to ensure children’s participation in decision-making processes and to hear their needs, visions, and perspectives on the challenges in their community. A key principle of this strategic planning process is involving children in every activity that affects their rights.

Members of the municipal panel for children’s rights listened to the children and became directly acquainted with their ideas and requests. After the consultations, a working meeting was held with the panel, where we continued developing the strategic plan for children’s rights in the Municipality of Debar

The consultative meeting and municipal panel are activities conducted in cooperation with Municipality of Debar, as part of the project “Place to grow – Child friendly municipalities” implemented by the First Children’s Embassy in the World Megjashi Republic of Macedonia and KMOP Skopje.
